How to Set Up a Local Account
Windows 10 makes it little bit difficult to have a secondary user account, but all its takes to read this post carefully.
By default, when you upgrade or install windows 10, you need
to use your Microsoft account. By using Microsoft account you can get access to
all of Microsoft’s services online, such as the OneDrive and Windows Store. But
if you would like to store your stuff on desktop at least or as much as
possible or you don’t want anyone from your family to access Microsoft’s cloud
then having a local account will be the best option.
To get started with local account, open the Settings and
select Accounts from left column. If you only want to create an account
for yourself then click on Your account > Sign in with a local
account and follow the wizard.
Go to Settings App > click on Family & other
users > click on Add someone else to this PC.
In the next screen, click on
“The person I want to add doesn’t have an email address.”
In next screen, Microsoft wants you to fill the form by
using Microsoft account. We will not use that, of course so we’ll select the
option at the bottom of the screen “Add a user without a Microsoft account.”
You only have to do in this screen is type a user name, password
(twice), password hint, and then hit Next.
That’s it! Now you have a local account to use as you want.
You can’t use some of Microsoft’s cloud functions with a
local account, but some of them still alive, such as Wi-Fi Sense, OneDrive and
Cortana. Some of these are opt-in features, but to ensure they aren’t bugging constantly
you or sending data to the cloud check.
